Show Notes

In this special episode, Dr. Scott Drucker and Jinesh Patel sit down with Dr. Eric Block – a full-time practicing dentist, author, wellness advocate, podcast host, and co-founder of Flomo. Eric traces an unusual path into dentistry that began when a beer bottle broke his front tooth during college. After dental school and an implant residency, he built a career in private practice, but eventually found himself overwhelmed by anxiety, perfectionism, social exhaustion, and the pressure to make every patient and team member happy.

Eric shares candidly how therapy, prescribed medication, and a better understanding of his own introversion helped him move from dreading work to enjoying dentistry again. The conversation expands into one of the profession’s biggest blind spots: dentists are trained to pass exams and perform procedures, but rarely to lead teams, navigate conflict, process failure, or recognize how their own emotional state affects the entire office. That experience inspired The Stress-Free Dentist book and podcast, along with Eric’s broader work supporting dental professionals’ mental health and wellbeing.

The second half of the episode explores Flomo, the workflow and SOP platform Eric created with Dr. Jeff Greenberg after realizing how much practice knowledge was being repeated, scattered, or lost when experienced staff left. Eric explains how a $150,000 MVP quote became a roughly $2,500 first development phase through Lovable.dev, vibe coding, and an Upwork team. The group then gets honest about slow early sales, behavior change as the real competition, staff buy-in, de novo versus legacy practices, trusted-channel partnerships, DSO opportunities, and the difficulty of building a startup while continuing to practice full time.
