Guest Bio:

Anthony P. Urbanek, D.D.S., M.S., M.D Tony Urbanek is a double degree Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with additional extensive training and experience in Cell Biology and Anatomy.  He received his dental degree with Highest Distinction from Indiana University.  Having completed dental school a year early, he spent his 4th year in the medical school’s Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology while simultaneously teaching Anatomy and Physiology in the nursing school.  Within that year he completed his thesis and received his Master’s degree in Anatomy and Cell Biology before moving onto Nashville. There he entered a specially designed program incorporating the M.D. Degree, PhD in Anatomy/Cell Biology and internship/ residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery inclusive with a research grant/fellowship from the National Institutes of Dental and Craniofacial Research intending on an academic career.  His research grant and fellowship focused on the creation of animal models with laser induced craniofacial defects coincident with intra-uterine fetal surgery.  Upon completing the required didactics and research proving viable animal models with reproduceable facial growth defects could be generated via laser and intra-uterine surgery, he was advised that a more “traditional” area of research and thesis would be necessary to complete the Ph.D.  Never considering himself nor his work traditional, a decision to enter the private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery seemed justified. Over the next 42 years he experienced the challenges and joys of surgery in an operating room heavily weighted in the areas of orthognathic, cleft lip and palate, microneural reconstruction, TMJ/TMD, trauma, and cancer reconstruction. However, after 30 years of inconsistent results using all the variations of temporomandibular joint surgery, and watching patients and his dental colleagues suffer the consequences of a problem without a solution, he decided to forego TMJ surgery and began an attempt to figure out what no one else had figured out regarding the TMD conundrum.  His successful research and results are now documented within various podcasts, blogs, thousands of patient testimonials, and an independent university study. Along the way, he promulgated and combined his interests in family, country, charity, and aviation to found successful medical clinics in Haiti and Jamaica, enjoy a 53 year and counting career as a private pilot, Aviation Medical Examiner, past president of the Flying Physicians Association, and aviation entrepreneur.  After wrapping up his surgical career in 2020, he now focuses on expanding the company he founded to bring his non- surgical solution for TMD to as many doctors and patients as possible. Tony is the father of three, grandfather to seven and great grandfather to one who all live happily within 10 minutes of his home in Brentwood, Tennessee he shares with his wife Ann. He has been quoted as saying: “Life is a trip and I really enjoy the ride”.
