Teething and Terrible 2’s I am still not sure why they are called the terrible 2”s? I think it should be called the terrible tweens! Two was a breeze! I loved that age. She did not talk back, was cuddly and inquisitive! As far as teeth go, between about 12 and 24 months, most toddlers are getting teeth this whole phase. While some toddlers make it through teething with no issues, others experience symptoms that might include drooling, pain, crankiness, irritability, sleeplessness, inflamed sore gums, rash and relentless chewing. Like most things at this age it is harder on the parents than the kids. By the age of two, the second set of molars erupt, giving your toddler a full set of baby teeth, those same symptoms can intensify for some children. You are going to want to keep a close eye out for signs of future problems. Does your child snore?Does your child show other signs of disturbed sleep?Have long pauses in breathing?Tossing and turn in the bed?Have chronic mouth breathing during sleep?Have night sweats or wet the bed? You will want to establish a dental home in case there is an emergency. If you are a patient of record you will get in faster. Thoughts Values and beliefs I am a huge believer that our own thoughts, values and beliefs impact our decisions. Those beliefs impact the value we place on everything. They impact whether we even go to a doctor or dentist for treatment in the first place. They impact the choices we make. If we choose to go to a doctor or dentist and you do not agree with the treatment they have presented, you have the right to refuse treatment or go someplace else. Do your research and find a provider that is in line with your beliefs. Keep in mind that each doctor and dentist have their own belief system based on their experiences in life which affects the way they establish their practice. It is not fair for you to dictate what Treatment the doctor or dentist provides if it is not in line with their beliefs. Picking the right provider is key to a mutually respectful relationship. Knowing what you are looking for and asking questions when you make an appointment will save you and your child a bad experience. Finding a dentist is like dating! It may take kissing a few frogs before you find the right one.
