A few weeks ago I sat down on the swing that we have in our front yard and recorded a statement for Instagram. Bottom line…if you’re a regular dentist doing regular dentistry, that’s enough. Social media isn’t real and it isn’t real life. Dr. Dennis Harblieb saw this and wanted to talk about it on his podcast, so we had a conversation!

The conversational roller coaster consisted of:

• Dental photography is important for dentists. Instagram photography isn’t realistic for most of us.
• Al’s “super bloody gums” Instagram
• Just because Michael Jordan was a “once in an era” talent that doesn’t mean that the rest of the players in the NBA had to hang it up.
• Execute to the best of your own ability
• Has social media made dentists less likely to save teeth?
• Just because so much of what we see on social media is the big and fancy stuff doesn’t mean that people don’t need plain old general dentistry
• Social media pushes us to put our best face forward vs. what’s actually happening in our life
• Choose your times for social media and do it for entertainment
• Don’t go on social media when you’re in an emotionally down time…it can be self administered poison
• Social media isn’t really set up for teaching. It’s designed to create a dopamine rush vs. delivering knowledge
